Bright lights, huge figurines, dinner and a show restaurants and fun arcades are a few things that come to mind when thinking of Pigeon Forge Tennessee. This town is home to the one and only Dolly Parton! Half of the town has been transformed into Dollywood and feels like a fun escape from reality. Although we didn’t enter Dollywood, it is comparable to six flags type of fun!
Our first stop were to some attractions on the strip worth checking out! Old Mill is its own tiny town complete with a candy kitchen, two restaurants, and a moonshine distillery of course! At Old Forge Distillery we were offered 8 free samples of moonshine- watch out they’re strong! Ranging from apple pie to coffee blackberry to chocolate! So yummy. At buy 2 get a free mixer, we got pineapple upside down moonshine filled with cherries and blackberry moonshine with mason jar of lemonade to mix! Next we grabbed dinner at The Pottery Place. The bow tie Mac and cheese is a must have!!
The next morning we had our white water rafting scheduled. For the first day we did a beginners tour. This consisted of class one and class two rapids which are the least dangerous and it was mainly a calmer part of the river. The next day we graduated up to intermediate which was so much more fun, consisting of rapids class three and four. This trip wouldn’t be complete without the ultimate shock which came when Matt fell out of the raft during a class four rapids! Thankfully all went well and all he lost was a shoe. I was so nervous but our raft guides were so amazing and super knowledgeable and made us feel safe every step of the way! After an exciting day out on the water we grabbed a bite to eat at the Bean Tree Cafe, they have a beautiful mamosa tree in the back outdoor seating area. Their fried pickles are a must try and get a little funky with their beer menu!
The next day we went horseback riding at Jayell ranch. Here we also had a very knowledgeable guide and super friendly staff to help us ride through the smoky mountains. Gorgeous views and beautiful horses! This was an awesome part of the day.
Next stop: Nashville, TN! Home of country music I wish we planned more than one night here. So many places so visit and fun bars to hop around. We started at Swinging Door Saloon where we were serenaded by a live band of father and son. Moonshine is a specialty here, so make sure you try one! I had the blood orange moonshine with tequila and orange juice. Yummy! Next we went over to Betty Boots where we saw a mother and daughter duet. We grabbed a drink at The Wheel karaoke bar and grabbed another drink at Wild Horse Saloon.
The next morning we had brunch at The Farm House. Everything here is grown from a local farm and delivered fresh daily! Try one of their burgers and add an egg! We had extra fun using the French press coffee machine and loved that our water glasses were recycled wine bottles.
